Dance Class Information

Hip Hop & Tumble Dance Instructor: Shannon Grant


 Tumble Dance Class of 2007/2008

 Tumble Dance – A 45 minute class that combines tumbling and dance concepts into a high energy class.
This class is suitable for ages 2 – 3 years old.
It prepares students for a more structured creative movement and dance class at age 4.
Students in the tumble dance class will hop, skip, jump, learn basic dance and tumbling moves
and develop motor skills necessary for the next phase of dance and/or tumbling.

 


Beginner Dance/Creative Movement Class 2007/2008

Creative Movement/Beginner Dance - A 45 minute class that consist of beginning dance skills and pre-ballet concepts.
This class prepares students for the Level 1 Ballet/Tap combination class.
This class is ideal for students who are at least 3 and have completed
tumble dance or students who are 4 and 5 year old beginner dance students.



Level 1.Ballet/Tap  – Class of  2007/2008

Level 1: Ballet/ Tap  – a one hour class that develops two dance styles.
The class is divided in half and addresses the vocabulary and movements skills for both ballet and tap.
Students in this class are placed there by the teacher.
Typically these students are students who have completed beginner dance or be at least 5 1/2 - 7 years old.


Level 2: Ballet/Tap - a 1 hour and a half class that continues to develop  two dance styles.
Students in this class advance to a one hour ballet class and tap is offered for 30 minutes.
Students in this class will study more advanced technical dance skills.
Students are placed in this level based on age and their previous experience level.
Placement is at the discretion of the instructor.


Intermediate Ballet Class 2007/2008


Apprentice/Dance Theater Ballet Class 2007/2008

Levels 3 and up –  Two hours of ballet per week recommended. * Required for pre-pointe students.

Placement is at the discretion of the instructor.


Petite Jazz

Ages ( 4-8), and enrolled in ballet class. These students will study and perform jazz combinations and jazz concepts.

Intermediate Jazz – Class of 2007/2008

Jazz – a one hour class for ballet enrolled  students between the ages of 8 and 11.
Students are placed in classes with students relatively close in age and abilities.


 Jazz Performance Troupe: Class of 2007/2008

For the jazz student 12 and up the classes are one and a half hours long. Jazz dance consists of smooth,
syncopated or unexpected moves that require the isolated movement of various body parts.
This is a swing flavor type dance style found in most Broadway stage productions.
All movements within the jazz classes are age appropriate with "no outwardly sexual undertones" for the younger students.


Advanced Tap - Class of 2007/2008

Tap – a half hour class for beginning students between the ages of 5 and 10: and a 45 minute class for students11 and up.
Tap produces rhythmic patters with the feet as an additional percussive accompaniment to the music.


Hip Hop Jr. Class of 2007/2008

Hip Hop - a 45 minute class offered in addition to a Jazz technique class.
Students must be 9 years old and all hip hop students must take a jazz class in addition to hip hop.
Hip Hop is the style of dance most commonly seen on music videos.


Private Classes
Private Classes are available time permitting, however, they should not be considered a substitution for group classes.
An integral part of learning dance is developing the ability to move as a collective ensemble therefore private classes
should be used to further develop technical skills of the individual dancer. Arrangements have to be made directly with the individual instructor.

**All music used in class is age appropriate and suitable for family use. No vulgar or suggestive lyrics are permitted**

Class Attire

Young Ladies:


Jr. Ballet/Tap Classes - Solid colored leotard, pink tights or socks, pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes

All other Ballet Classes - Solid colored leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes

Jazz and Tap Classes - Solid colored leotard or close fitting top, black jazz pants, black jazz oxfords or black tap shoes

Young Men:


Ballet, Jazz, or Tap - Plain white tucked in t-shirt, black leggings, jazz pants, or biker shorts -
NO NYLON PANTS: black ballet shoes for ballet class; black jazz oxfords for jazz class; black jazz tap oxfords for tap class
