Musical Theater

Musical Theater is a Triple Threat Training Experience. Class times consist of 4 hours per week. Two hours each time. Students are divided into age ranges of juniors and seniors for training purposes. Seniors are high school and up. Juniors are Middle School.  Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the director and choreographer only. Classes will be held in dance, theater, and voice on a weekly basis. Students will learn different periods and styles of dance, audition packets will be given to all students which will include two 16 bar songs, and two monologues of differing styles. Students will learn how to work as an ensemble and will work on various choreography from not only shows that we will be performing this year but from shows that are used for class, concert, learning, and competition purposes only. Students are not required to be in the musical we have each year. However, it is strongly recommended if you want to receive the full musical theater experience and for building your show resume'. A majority of the parts in a musical are for the ensemble.  Playing an ensemble role is very important to the training and learning of a potential triple threat performer. Most Broadway work is about being a part of an ensemble. There are very few leads on Broadway and if you don't know how to be a great ensemble member you probably can expect not to work after high school. Extra Rehearsals for shows will be called outside of the usual class times and if cast you are expected to attend all rehearsals. Show packets will be distributed with contracts ect., during our first production meeting for said show. If you must miss you must give a two week notice in writing. If you are sick a doctor's note must accompany you, especially right before a show. If you are continually missing rehearsals your part will be recast. Our musicals are viewed by the public and carry quite a reputation for being both professional and polished. Our musical theater shows are produced by our students.

All production cost including costumes, props, venues, marketing, choreography, etc... is the responsibility of each student. Your monthly tuition covers the cost of the two teachers who work with your child on a weekly basis for 4 hours each week. All other costs are the responsibility of the student or parent, including classroom curriculum and show cost. A typical production cost per student is $100 based on props, costumes and venue. Students are given the opportunity to sell ad space in the shows program book to cover their production cost. If you are a member of the booster club you can use your credits to pay for your production costs as well.  Choosing one or both of these options gives you a chance to not have any out of pocket expense. However, if you choose you may pay the production cost without participating in either of these options. Each family has different needs in regards to time and money. However, the show production cost is not the responsibility of our teachers, directors, studio or staff.( Much like your public or private school does not pay for your books, notebooks, fieldtrips, and other expenses that are incurred with the exception of the teachers instruction.) Please think about this before auditioning. You are not required to be in a show, but if you audition you must pay the production cost that will be given to you ahead of time. The cost must be paid within 30 days of being cast and signing your contract.  Students who have unpaid balances after 30 days following casting will be recast. We can assure you that the students who go through our program who are actively involved in shows are the same students who receive the big scholarships to colleges and top programs throughout the country. However, this choice is completely up to you. We understand if you cannot participate in this show experience. Your regular musical theater training will not be compromised.
